Why we exist
Choosing a first drone is harder than it should be. Spec sheets are long, marketing is loud and the rules change from country to country. We wanted one calm place that explains the basics in plain English, compares a small number of good options and points you to official sources when it matters.
What we cover
- Beginner-friendly drones: five picks, from an 80 g learning mini to a 38-minute 4K camera drone.
- Buying advice: how to choose a first drone, what your money buys in our budget guide, and why 249 g matters.
- Essential features: GPS, cameras and gimbals, batteries and flight modes.
- Safety and rules: flight safety tips, rules and registration and a first flight checklist.
How we choose and check
We compare drones using manufacturer-published specifications, official product pages and widely documented features. We look for stable, forgiving flight, built-in safety nets, sensible weight, good footage out of the box and a manufacturer that supplies spare parts. We do not claim to run laboratory tests, so figures such as flight time and range are manufacturer-stated maximums in ideal conditions, and we say so on the page.
Independence and accuracy
We are not affiliated with DJI, Potensic, Ryze or any other manufacturer. Brand names belong to their owners. Prices shown are indicative and change by region, bundle and retailer, so every drone profile links to the official product page for you to verify. If you spot an error, please tell us and we will review it promptly.
Fly safe, fly legal
Nothing on this site is legal advice. Regulations differ by country and change often, so our guides always point to the relevant aviation authority. You are responsible for knowing and following the rules where you fly.
